This little mic makes crystal clear recordings - better than the high-quality condenser mic built in to my Sony BX700 recorder.
The sound is terrible when plugged into my Kodak ZI8. Turns out what I recieved is a knock-off. Do some searches for ECM-DS70P bootleg to find out more. I took a chance and purchased this mic from the seller with the lowest price. I paid less than ten bucks plus shipping so I'm not too upset. If you are paying much less than the retail price for this item, be cautious.
Got it really cheap and it was perfect for recording meetings on the go. The sound quality won't win awards but for this price (below $18) I really can't complain.
Sony sells this item on its website for $74.99. Electronic goods are easy to copy - at least, the way they LOOK is - so I try to purchase electrical goodies directly from Amazon or the manufacturer anytime I can. The one-star reviews on Amazon are most likely of knock-offs. I generally over-research anything I'm thinking of buying; I was was thinking of getting an external microphone for a camcorder. (The video was uploaded by someone who bought a ECM-DS70P for five bucks, by the way).
Like the $20.00 Rolex watches that are a comic cliche, this particular item is one to look out for. WAY too good. Well, go to YouTube and type in "Sony ECM-DS70P fake Mic" Yep. A few user-provided photos at Amazon are definitely of the fake. Sony is a popular brand name to counterfeit.
This looked great and the price was too good to be true. The YouTube video gives a close look at the fake and the Real Thing.
price is nice too. not really awesome but still very good for recording. Sound separation is ok. you can add stereo effects using software like SONY soundforge. I recommend this product for everyone who likes recording music like live performance. recording is loud and clear. Bottom line is, the recording is CLEAR without any distortions.
